Topic/Content: Composition inspired by photography
Goals/Outcomes:
- Use essential elements and organizational principles to create, present and/or perform works of art for a variety of purposes.
- Explore and describe the use of ideas, techniques, and problem solving in the creative process (e.g., planning, choice of medium, choice of tools, analysis and revision) and identify the impact of choices made.
Objectives/Performance Indicators:
- Students will create a short composition using Garage Band.
- Students will write a paragraph explaining their
creative choices
Materials/Equipment/Technology
- 10 photographs of various subjects
- Computer Lab equipped with Garage Band (students have already worked through previous Garage Band tutorials and assignments)
Procedure/Methods
- Students will access a webpage with 10
photographs
- Students will select the photograph that is most
inspiring and/or interesting to them.
- Using Garage Band, students must compose a minimum of 16 measures inspired by their chosen photograph. Their composition must include at least:

two
melodic/harmonic tracks such as guitar, piano, brass, etc.

one percussion
track
·
one change in
dynamics in at least one, if not all, the tracks
- Students will then write one paragraph
explaining how their chosen photograph influenced their musical choices.
- Students will read their paragraph to the class and present the composition.
